Most of us have known people who have personally fought the battle against cancer. Through modern treatments and the miracle of science, many have survived. Tragically, others have not. The MSU Gran Fondo is my opportunity to get some skin in the game and provide hope for nearly 70,000 people in the U.S. expected to be diagnosed with melanomas of the skin this year.
Funds raised from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Gran Fondo support skin cancer awareness, prevention and research at MSU. These dollars are funding pilot studies – investigative, next-step research that tests findings and enables a scientific study to continue. This past January, MSU researchers annnounced a breakthough discovery of a chemical compound and potential new drug that reduces the spread of melanoma cells by up to 90%. This incredible discovery was published in the January issue of Molecular Cancer Therapeutics. Amazing!
On June 24, 2017, the streets of Western Michigan will be filled with cyclists committed to carrying on the fight against skin cancer. My hope is that you will join me in supporting a mission that is more than skin deep. 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to support skin cancer awareness, prevention and research at the MSU Medical School.
Thanks you for your support. Together we are making a difference!
